exciting news :)

Tonight I sat down for dinner at the condo we are staying at for vacation.  In the middle of eating, my dad left the table, and came back with a gift bag, which he handed to me.  I was obviously very confused, considering my birthday was a few months ago, and there is no other special occasion I could think of.  However, when I pulled out this gnome card (that sings!) I was already excited.

After listening to the whimsical gnome song, I opened the bag and pulled out this book:

My dad said I would need this Portuguese book, at which point I began to realize my parents are paying for me to go to Brazil with Nick and his family this Christmas!  My parents' original plan was to wait and tell me right before Christmas break, but my dad was already having a hard time waiting, plus there is paperwork that needs to be taken care of earlier than that.  My dad had secretly contacted Nick and his parents and arranged it, but wanted to keep it a surprise for me...turns out my Dad was the one who couldn't keep the surprise a secret!

I am so thankful for this gift, because I never expected to be able to go.  (I am already going to Niger from mid January to late April)....But I am so happy to spend time with Nick, Jay, Bree, and their parents in Brazil :)  Thanks, Mom & Dad!

typography art

I really enjoy making things for people.  Sometimes I paint, other times I simply bust out the good old sharpie pens.  I enjoy being creative, trying out new things, and sharing my creations with others.  Here is some art I made recently for a few of my pen pals this summer :) The first and the last are on the backs of envelopes, and the one in the middle (I included two pictures of it) I drew on a page from my sketchbook.  I hope they don't look at this before they get their letters!

Most of these are Bible verses that I find to be awesome :)

The one below features song lyrics from Karla Adolphe, a Canadian Christian folk artist I greatly admire.  You can listen to some of her songs here: http://www.therustycaravan.com/karla-adolphe/
I recommend listening!
Feel free to comment with any good verses or quotes that I could use in the future.  I have also done Mumford & Sons lyrics and quotes from Harry Potter (especially for my friends Emilee Stemmler and Ashley Burns).  Hope you enjoyed looking, and that you make your own sometime...it's simple, and makes for great gifts or random surprises :)
